Plainfield Schools Career Carnival

Students in the Plainfield Public School District are very familiar with the 4 Es – Enrollment, Enlistment, Entrepreneurship, and Employment – as those Es form the foundation of the district’s career and college planning model.

When the Plainfield school counseling team approached us about organizing a Career Carnival with those Es in mind, we were thrilled. After all, Career Carnivals celebrate all sorts of work and feature careers suited to different skills, interests, and educational objectives, from college or advanced degrees to certification, apprenticeship, and on-the-job training.

Not surprisingly, many Career Guides who have joined us at prior events (in some cases, many prior events!) were quick to sign on, and we’re grateful for the experience and enthusiasm they bring to every program. In Plainfield, those Career Guides were AHS Goryeb Children’s Hospital, AI Ager, AIA NJ EPiC, Association for Supply Chain Management (ACSM), Crisis Response Canines, Math Imagined, National CSI Camp, NJ State Police, NJIT ASCE, and US Army.

Of course, we’re always looking to expand the roster, and this school-based program presented a perfect opportunity to do just that. We welcomed Career Guides from Associated Construction Contractors of NJ (ACCNJ), Dasti & Staiger, P.C., Focus Posters, Plainfield Fire Department, Plainfield Police Department, Plainfield Public Library, River Road Rescue Squad, ShopRite of Watchung, Trane, UCNJ – Union College, Union County Mosquito Control, and Xello.

About 150 students and family members had a great time meeting all of these amazing professionals and learning about the fascinating work they do. Attendees also enjoyed delicious and nutritious snacks, courtesy of ShopRite of Watchung.

Thanks to our Career Guides, super volunteers Sharon and Devin, and partners on the Plainfield school counseling team for helping to make this a successful event!
